Apparently, body dysphoria is the new black in Tinseltown, almost like there’s a quota for celebrity kids to question their biology before they hit 30. Must be something in the kale smoothies.
Robert De Niro's 29-year-old son, Airyn De Niro, now publicly identifies as transgender after he began hormone treatment in 2024.
Airyn, formerly known as Aaron, was born via surrogate to actor Robert De Niro and his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith.
In an interview with Them magazine, Airyn shared insights about how his transition has made him embrace his "blackness."
"I think a big part of [my transition] is also the influence Black women have had on me,” De Niro's son said. “I think stepping into this new identity, while also being more proud of my Blackness, makes me feel closer to them in some way.”
Airyn expressed gratitude for his parents' support, noting that both De Niro and Smith prioritized privacy during childhood.
“Obviously, no parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight,” he said. “They wanted it very private; they have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible.”
Airyn claimed she wants more visibility to inspire others, and was raised to prioritize personal merit over fame.
"I wasn’t brought up having a side part in one of dad’s movies or going to business meetings or attending premieres. My dad was very big on us finding our own sort of path. I would want [success] to happen on my own merit," he said. "There’s a difference between being visible and being seen. I’ve been visible. I don’t think I’ve been seen yet."
Reflecting on past struggles, Airyn described challenges with societal beauty standards and gender expectations.
“Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success… I’m like, you know what? ‘Maybe it's not too late for me. Maybe I can start.’”https://t.co/2PFPgI9IeP

“I didn’t even fit that beauty standard, which is thin, white, muscular, or just super fit, masculine. I was always told I was too much of something or not enough of something growing up: Too big, not skinny enough. Not Black enough, not white enough. Too feminine, not masculine enough. It was never just, ‘You’re just right, just the way you are,’” Airyn said.
Robert De Niro, father to Airyn and six other children, including Airyn’s twin brother Julian, has been vocal in his political activism, bashing President Trump at every turn.

During the 2024 election cycle, the Academy Award-winning actor campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris, notably calling former President Trump “a piece of shit” at a Pennsylvania rally.
“It makes me so fucking angry that we’re here talking about a piece of shit like Donald Trump,” he said.

De Niro also joined a tailgate event in Philadelphia with former Secretary of State John Kerry and Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-PA, to support Harris.
And so, the Hollywood conveyor belt churns out another tale of identity reinvention, dutifully amplified by Democrats who seem to think body dysphoria is a personality trait worth celebrating.
While Airyn De Niro finds a new path, the left’s obsession with turning self-doubt into a political platform continues unabated, because nothing screams ‘progress’ like a celebrity kid’s hormone journey plastered across headlines.
