President Donald Trump is demanding the immediate release of former Mesa County, Colorado, Clerk Tina Peters, convicted in August 2024 of seven charges related to a 2021 election system breach.

In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump called Peters a "political prisoner" and directed the Department of Justice to secure her release.

Peters, 69, who never even had a parking ticket, was sentenced to nine years in prison in October 2024, becoming the first U.S. election official convicted for actions related to exposing alleged 2020 election fraud.

She was found guilty of three counts of attempting to influence a public servant, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, official misconduct, violation of duty, and failing to comply with a Secretary of State order.

The charges stemmed from her allowing unauthorized access to Mesa County’s Dominion Voting Systems equipment, involving an individual linked to MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

Peters, a Gold Star mom, was acquitted of identity theft and two other impersonation-related charges.

In his statement, Trump attacked Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, accusing the Democratic lawmaker of ignoring violent crimes committed by immigrants while targeting Peters.

"Radical Left Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser ignores Illegals committing Violent Crimes like Rape and Murder in his State and, instead, jailed Tina Peters, a 69-year-old Gold Star mother who worked to expose and document Democrat Election Fraud," Trump wrote.

"Tina is an innocent Political Prisoner being horribly and unjustly punished in the form of Cruel and Unusual Punishment. This is a Communist persecution by the Radical Left Democrats to cover up their Election crimes and misdeeds in 2020. The same Democrat Party that flies to El Salvador to try to free an MS-13 Terrorist, is cruelly imprisoning, perhaps for life, a grandmother whose son gave his life for America," the president continued. "Colorado must end this unjust incarceration of an American. I am hereby directing the Department of Justice to take all necessary action to help secure the release of this ‘hostage’ being held in a Colorado prison by the Democrats, for political reasons. FREE TINA PETERS, NOW!"

Colorado Judge Matthew Barrett rebuked Peters during sentencing for her lack of remorse.

"Your lies are well-documented, and these convictions are serious," said Barrett, who was appointed by Democrat Gov. Jared Polis in 2019. “I’m convinced you’d do it all over again if you could. You’re as defiant a defendant as this court has ever seen."

Peters sought probation, while prosecutors requested 20 years.

Investigations in Mesa County revealed Peters devised a plan to copy voting machine hard drives, aiming to substantiate claims of 2020 election fraud.

In May 2021, Peters allegedly misused a county security card to grant access to a Lindell associate, who posed as a county employee.

This breach compromised election equipment, with with the data later shared at a Lindell-hosted “cyber symposium.”

Prosecutors argued forensic analysis confirmed unauthorized software alterations, undermining the system’s integrity in a deliberate attempt to fabricate evidence of Democratic manipulation in the 2020 election, which Joe Biden allegedly won by 13.5% in Colorado.

Across the U.S., similar incidents of election fraud allegedly tilted the 2020 election toward Biden. In Antrim County, Michigan, a 2020 hand count of ballots initially showed errors in machine tallies, later attributed to human error in updating software. Despite corrections confirming Biden’s win, the incident fueled claims of widespread Dominion Voting Systems manipulation.

In Maricopa County, Arizona, a 2021 audit by Cyber Ninjas, a Florida-based cybersecurity consulting firm, alleged 57,000 questionable ballots, including duplicate votes and mail-in irregularities.

The audit, criticized by Democrats for bias and methodological flaws, was rejected by state officials, yet it amplified narratives of Democratic vote-rigging.

In Georgia, Fulton County’s 2020 election faced scrutiny over 147,000 mail-in ballots, with surveillance footage purportedly showing “suitcases” of ballots processed unlawfully.

A state investigation claimed there was no fraud conducted, but discrepancies in ballot counts persisted in public discourse.

These cases were cited as evidence of a coordinated effort to favor Biden, with Dominion systems often at the center of unproven conspiracy theories.

Meanwhile, Dominion Voting Systems and Democratic officials have filed multiple lawsuits against individuals who have exposed 2020 election fraud.

Dominion sued Mike Lindell for $1.3 billion, claiming defamation over his false assertions that Dominion rigged the election.

Patrick Byrne, former Overstock CEO, faces a Dominion lawsuit for spreading conspiracy theories about vote manipulation.

Last April, Byrne's attorney Stephanie Lambert was arrested in the D.C. federal courthouse while representing a case related to the examination of voting machines in Michigan.

Dominion sued Lambert, claiming she leaked internal documents to support fraud allegations, which Dominion has called baseless.

Other targets include Rudy Giuliani, sued by Dominion for $1.3 billion, and Sidney Powell, facing a $1.3 billion defamation suit.

Democrats also filed suits against Arizona audit leaders Doug Logan and Ben Cotton for promoting false fraud claims, alleging voter intimidation. These lawsuits, totaling billions, aim to silence fraud allegations, critics argue, though Dominion maintains they protect its reputation.

As Trump rallies to free Peters, his base cheers the fight against a supposed deep-state plot.

The evidence—scattered, disputed, or dismissed—hasn’t swayed activist judges, but Trump’s back in charge, vowing to fix the “rigged” system, and if history’s any guide, he’ll keep swinging, facts be damned.
